Wellbeing

The reformed Junior Cycle provides for a new area of learning called Wellbeing. It includes learning opportunities to enhance the physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing of students, enabling them to build life skills and develop a strong sense of connectedness to their school and to their community. The rationale underlying the Wellbeing programme focuses on the belief that all students have a right to feel cared for in school, and to develop and grow the necessary skills, responsibilities, resilience and understanding to live active, healthy lives.

In Loreto College Foxrock, we provide programmes and supports which promote physical and mental wellbeing, through our pastoral care and student supports systems; Anti-Bullying Ambassadors programme; full extra-curricular programme including a wide variety of sports and physical activities; themed weeks promoting life-skills, physical and mental health, culture and the arts, inclusivity, kindness and building resilience.

From September 2021, the Junior Cycle Wellbeing programme comprises 400 hours of time-tabled learning for 1st Year students.

There are three pillars to all Junior Cycle Wellbeing programmes:
PE (135 hours), SPHE (100 hours) and CSPE (100 hours). SPHE incorporates RSE (Relationships and Sexuality Education).
