The Compass Team was established in 2022 as a means of formalising the leadership opportunities that Loreto Foxrock offers to 5th Year students. Students work with teachers to promote subjects within the school and on various committees such as Wellbeing, Justice and Peace, and Green Schools. They also help at school events such as Open Evenings and Learning Advice Meetings. Members of the Compass Team have also worked with 1st Year students helping them to get to know students across their year group and thereby helping with their transition to secondary school.
The name for the team was inspired by The Mary Ward Schools’ Compass which is a guiding educational document developed in 2017 at an international conference, held in South Africa, of members of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM), Congregatio Jesu (Congregation of Jesus or CJ) and representatives from schools in 21 countries. This network is made up of over 180 Mary Ward schools worldwide. The document identifies eight markers which Mary Ward schools use to ensure that they continue to offer educational, co-curricular and student wellbeing programs which are relevant in a rapidly changing world and which empower students to become agents of change in a global society.
We hope that the Compass Team will continue to develop in order to foster all aspects of The Mary Ward Schools’ Compass and Mary Ward’s charism of Justice, Joy, Sincerity, Truth and Freedom
