Music

Loreto College Foxrock offers music to all students attending the school.  First Year students receive weekly classroom lessons, where they learn the ukulele as a beginner instrument, and develop their listening and composition skills by exploring a variety of musical styles.

Students can decide to continue to study music for Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate.

Loreto Foxrock offers extra curricular activities, available to all students including:  School Choir, Junior Choir, String Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, Irish Traditional Group and Glee Club. Students can also avail of instrumental lessons in the school including, Flute, Clarinet, Violin, Piano and Singing lessons.  Group lessons are also available for Ukulele and Guitar.

Students are given the opportunity to perform regularly at events throughout the school year.  Students represent Loreto Foxrock at various musical festivals including the Kilcoole Music festival, The Wesley Interschools Music festival, Feis Ceoil, Newpark Music festival and the Arklow Music Festival.  The choir also takes part annually in the massed choir of secondary students at the Helix called Emmanuel.

 

The study of music improves academic skills, develops physical skills, cultivates social skills, refines discipline and patience, boosts self-esteem and introduces children to other cultures
