We aim to give our students a love of sport and prepare them for lifelong physical activity. Physical Education is an integral part of our curriculum across all years. Participation in sport helps build friendships, teamwork, and a sense of solidarity. Sport builds resilience: it develops commitment and focus on the end game; skills that add to our students’ formation. These are the life-skills which become transferable in the years ahead. Participation in sport has also been shown to improve academic success.
To encourage a high level of participation in sport and games, the Board of Management employs a full-time Sports Co-ordinator to oversee, organise and manage the coaching and development of a wide range of sports. The primary emphasis is on participation and enjoyment, within the parameters of good sporting practice, and entry to competitions.
Sport plays an important part in students’ lives and several of our girls are currently achieving success at county and international level in basketball, Gaelic football, and hockey. Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings are busy match-times as students travel to away fixtures and we welcome other schools to Loreto College Foxrock for competitive and friendly matches. We field numerous teams in each of our sports disciplines throughout the school year and compete in Leinster leagues and cups. Our Loreto schools network also delivers leagues in parallel to standard inter-school competitions, creating additional avenues for experience.
We offer a wide variety of sports to all students including athletics, badminton, basketball, cross-country, Gaelic football, hockey, tennis, table tennis and orienteering. We also support our students who are members of Loreto golf and sailing teams.
We have a committed team of sports coaches across several disciplines led by a dedicated sports coordinator.

Loreto Foxrock has a strong tradition in schoolgirls hockey. Participation is open to all and it’s never too late to come out and join up. Each year in the summer term, Loreto Foxrock enters two Senior, three Junior and four Minor teams into the Leinster Schools Tennis Leagues.
In addition to this, we have 1st and 2nd Year tennis coaching groups which cater for all levels. Traditionally a fine-weather sport, and always popular, many students enjoy playing tennis for exercise and for fun.
In addition to our school teams, Loreto College Foxrock has representative teams and/or individual competitors in the following disciplines:
Golf, Horse Riding, Sailing, Swimming, Skiing, Figure Skating.
This is as a result of the commitment of some of our students to these sports outside of our school schedule. We are delighted to recognise and support these students and are very proud that they choose to represent Loreto College Foxrock in their chosen disciplines.
