Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome sisters Rachel, Aoife and Ruth Anne Cunningham, founders of the educational initiative Endo & ME, to our school for an important and engaging educational talk with our Transition Year students.
Many of our students were especially excited to meet Ruth Anne, who is not only a co‑founder, but also a well‑known Irish singer‑songwriter, celebrated for writing major hits performed by Britney Spears, Niall Horan and more.
The presentation introduced students to endometriosis (Endo) and menstrual education (ME), covering:
The Cunningham sisters also shared the mission behind their work, emphasising the need for early diagnosis and awareness. As they explained:
“With Endo & ME, we want to educate and empower young girls to ask the right questions, to know what a normal period is and to hopefully reduce the length of time it takes to get a diagnosis. Currently, it takes an average of nine years, which is simply unacceptable.”
Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women, with over 155,000 women in Ireland currently living with the condition. Symptoms can sometimes begin soon after a girl’s first period, affecting young people as early as 11–13 years old. Early understanding and recognition of symptoms can make a significant difference.
The goal of the talk was to equip our students with the knowledge to recognise signs and symptoms—for themselves, their friends, and their family—so they can seek help when needed and feel supported, informed, and never alone.

A huge thank you to Rachel, Aoife and Ruth Anne for visiting us (with lots of freebies in hand.. ) and for the important work they do.
