The Ember Leadership Team consists of 5th Year students who assist the RE department in promoting faith in our school. Following an application process, students embark on a three-day residential training programme in Ovoca Manor at the beginning of the school year. The training is organised by the Archdiocese of Dublin Education Secretariat and facilitated by a member of the RE team. Here the students learn about effective leadership and engage in team building exercises. They also get an opportunity to meet up with students from other schools in the Dublin area.
During the year, the students get involved in a number of activities, such as helping the 1st Years to settle into their new environment, decorating the sacred spaces around the school, and in keeping with the Seasons, assisting at the religious ceremonies throughout the year such as the Opening School Mass, the Carol Service and Mary Ward Week. The team also help to coordinate the Christmas Hampers for SVP.
The Ember team also introduce morning prayer for the year and mark key times of significance in the liturgical year and key times of religious importance for other faith members of our school community.
The team meet weekly with the coordinating teacher during lunchtime to discuss and plan for the projects and activities ahead.
The Ember team is a great opportunity for students to volunteer to make a positive contribution to school life and to promote the vision of Mary Ward throughout the school.
