Readers & Writers Week – Themes and Guests

School School — Mon, 05 Oct 2026 13:24:22 +0000

As part of Readers & Writers Week, where our school community celebrates all things literary, our annual Fictional Friday will in fact be a Fictional Thursday due to the school closure that week, and will take place on October 22nd. This is a dress-up day where students and staff are invited to come to school as something or someone from their assigned booky theme.

Each year group has been assigned a specific theme, which you’ll find in the attached PDF, along with some costume suggestions and guidelines.

We look forward to seeing the creativity and enthusiasm that always makes this day such a highlight of the week!

Attached also is a PDF outlining the guest speakers visiting us throughout the week — we are thrilled to welcome such amazing authors and creatives to inspire and engage our students.

We will keep you posted on our other competitions and activities as they happen!

📚 Read to 20 Challenge 📚

School School — Tue, 22 Sep 2026 10:44:03 +0000

We are delighted to launch our Read to 20 Challenge, an initiative designed by our very own Ms. Corcoran, to help students build their reading stamina and develop the habit of reading for pleasure on a regular basis.

While some students are already completing the challenge as part of their English classes, the challenge is open to everyone and can be completed at each student’s own pace.

Students and parents are invited to take part together. A copy of the Read to 20 booklet is attached to this post, and printed copies are also available in the Library. The booklet allows participants to track their progress as they work towards reading for pleasure on a daily basis.

The aim is not to race through books, nor to suffer through (see the book emergency page!), but to enjoy reading regularly, discover new authors and genres, and gradually build confidence and stamina as readers.

We encourage parents to get involved by reading alongside their child, discussing books together, and even taking on the challenge themselves!

Happy reading, and we look forward to celebrating everyone’s progress throughout the year.
