Sports Update November 2018

Congratulations to all involved in the wide variety of sports in which our students participate

Hockey

The Senior A hockey team are still unbeaten this season and have the next round of their Leinster Senior Cup on Wednesday 5th December.

The Junior A team lost their Leinster Cup quarter final to St Andrews.  They are also going well in the Leinster League.  All other Junior teams are still competing in early matches in their respective leagues.

The Minor A team has just suffered a cup loss against Wesley but are progressing well in the league.  Minor B and Minor C teams have started early Leinster league games.  All minor teams are looking forward to a team bonding afternoon on Friday 14th December.

All six 1st Year teams have started their Leinster league games and have a team bonding activity organised for late December.

Basketball

The Senior A basketball team are through to a Loreto League Semi Final with opponents to be confirmed.

The Cadette A Basketball team are into a Leinster Final on Wednesday 15th December in Inchicore – ‘A great achievement’.

All other sports

Badminton and table tennis still have good participation numbers.

GAA teams are training on Tuesday at lunch times and TY students are currently organising a 1st Year blitz on December 6th in Kilmacud Crokes for all Loreto Schools.

MMA on Thursdays is still proving very popular with excellent participation numbers.

Athletics have various meeting in Castleknock, Ballinteer and Phoenix Park all coming up.

Leinster Rugby are running their tag rugby programme within the school and teams have been entered into a tag rugby tournament on Tuesday 11th December in Donnybrook.

The Loreto Schools Swimming Gala took place on Thursday 29th of November in the NAC.  Mia Solaja (2nd Year) won gold with Niamh Walsh (1st Year) winning bronze.

We have two students taking part regularly in Inter Schools Horse Riding Competitions. Ella Anderson in 2nd Year has won two competitions so far.

 

Representatives

Jennifer Hamill 3rd Year is now down to the final 22 of the Irish U16 Trial selection.

Amelia Milroy and Molly Rees are still included in Leinster Development Panels.

Four students are playing with Foxrock Cabinteely Senior Ladies team in their All Ireland Club Final on Saturday 8th December in Parnell Park - Roisin Mc Govern, Jodi Egan, Sarah O Leary and Lisa Davies.  ‘A great achievement for all involved’.

 

November Sports Star Awards

Senior Cycle – Anna Beary (5th Year) Division Winner with Cuala U16 in both Gaelic Football and Hurling.

Junior Cycle – Mia Solaja – Gold Medal Swimmer

Team of the month – Loreto Swim Team
